In the past, if you wanted to whiten teeth, the only choice was to visit the dentist and have your teeth bleached.
Today there are many tooth whitening products available that you can use at home. However, both of these solutions involve using potentially hazardous chemicals, and they can even make teeth extremely sensitive.
Fortunately, there are certain ways in which you can brighten your teeth naturally. You can use some preventive measures and herbal treatments to make your pearly whites whiter.
Here are some tips for natural teeth whitening:
- Of course, brush and floss your teeth after every meal if possible. If you don’t have a toothbrush at hand, rinsing your mouth is better than nothing.
- Avoid using too much fluoride because it can discolor your teeth.
- Avoid cigarettes, and reduce the coffee and tea consumption. These are the most widespread culprits of tooth staining.
- Cola, wine, and some fruits and vegetables can also stain teeth. Do not stop eating these fruits and vegetables, just brush well after eating them.
- Certain fruits are great tooth whiteners. For example, you can rub strawberries directly on teeth. The inside of an orange peel is also excellent for whitening. You can rub it directly on your teeth, or make a paste of dried orange peel and ground bay leaves to brush on. A mixture of lemon juice and salt also produces great results.
- Use baking soda. Lots of the toothpastes include baking soda in their ingredients because it is so effective. Mix baking soda with a dash of salt and add a little vinegar to make a homemade tooth whitener.
- Be careful when selecting a mouthwash. A good number have alcohol and chlorhexidine in them – they both can discolor teeth. You should use herbal antibacterial mouthwashes.
