A new type of Botox could be the remedy for forehead wrinkles.
Reloxin, a new botulinum toxin type A, is well tolerated and helps improve the appearance of moderate to severe forehead lines.
Injecting Reloxin can keep frown lines from forming for more than a year, according to a study published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.
Similar to Botox, Reloxin is effective in restricting the action of the muscles responsible for frowning.
Researchers concluded that the treatment takes effect in as little as 24 hours and that between 93% and 95% of people noticed a difference.
Reloxin is manufactured by French drug maker Ipsen. The drug has been used to treat neurological disorders outside the United States for more than 15 years and is approved to treat wrinkles in 23 countries.
In the United States, this product has been under investigation for the treatment of forehead lines since 2002.
Reloxin can hit American market by the second half of 2009. The drug is pending possible FDA approval.
Reloxin is 15% cheaper than Botox. Another benefit of the drug is that there were very minimal side effects reported by study participants.
