What Will Help Remove Scars?

As a wound starts to heal, the skin it can produce too much collagen. As a result, a scar forms.

Because the forming of the scars is genetically determined, there’s not much you can do to prevent scars. However, you can reduce the effects.

There are three types of scars:

- Depressed scars, such as acne scars, are indented.
- Keloids are raised scars that grow past the borders of the wound.
- Hypertrophic scars are raised but don’t extend beyond the edges of the wound. This is the most common type of scars.

So, how to reduce scars?

- Silicone products rubbed in on a daily basis can make scars stop overproducing collagen and become permanently flatter. Silicone products must be used for several months and they work on new and old scars. Best for keloids and hypertrophic scars.

- Fraxel laser targets wide areas of skin. It resurfaces the top and improves collagen production underneath. After several treatments, a scar should be leveled off. Cost is $500 and up per session. Best for depressed scars

One last thing. Do not use vitamin E oil. It does not work.
