Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is the removal of the outer layer of the skin. This method helps reduce discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, pigmentation problems, etc.

Laser resurfacing is also used to tighten the skin and give your face a firmer and younger look.

However, you must get expert advice from an experienced dermatologist before submitting yourself to this treatment.

People with dark or olive skin should be particularly careful when using these types of treatments because they can scar quite easily.

With a choice of two different types of lasers for resurfacing, the dermatologist will decide how deep they must go to improve the quality of the skin. Sometimes medications are used to prevent the possibility of infection.

The dermatologist can target both light scarring and deeper scaring. In case there is a combination of light and deep scarring in the same area, the dermatologist might use an alternative laser that can affect the skin tissues deeper down allowing him to clear those problems at the same time.

There is a recovery period that can vary depending on the patient and for some people this can be quite a long time, particularly for people with sensitive skin.

In the first several days special care must be taken to make sure that the skin doesn’t get infected. After that the skin can peel for up to 21 days by which time it is usually ready to have makeup applied.

One of the benefits of laser resurfacing treatment is that it stimulates new collagen growth. This new collagen helps the skin to feel tighter and firmer for few months after the first treatment.
