How to Treat Sun Damage to Skin

There are numerous people with sun-induced skin damage.

The sun is one of the causes behind usual skin problems such as irregular pigmentation, a rough-textured complexion, sagging and wrinkles.

So if you’ve spent too much time basking in the sun on your summer holiday, now is the time to treat sun-stressed skin. Try these tips:

- First of all, do not stop using sunscreen. Use it on a daily basis, even during the winter months. Sunscreen will protect your skin from further damage. Try to get a sunscreen which includes following ingredients: mexoryl, triazone, procysteine and prolifersyn.

- To treat blemished skin, find products labelled “lighteners”, “brighteners” or “radiance-enhancing”.’ These products block the melanin production and new pigmentation, as well as help existing marks to fade.

- Ingredients that are good at treating sun spots are licorice extract, ferulic acid and niacinamide.

- Next, you need to exfoliate you sun-damaged skin in order to brighten up your complexion. Get a mild at-home microdermabrasion or gentle fruit acid peel .

- Use moisturisers containing stearic acid, lactic acid, glycerin or cholesterol.

- Apply a rebuilding serum before moisturising to protect your complexion. Find those with vitamin C, green tea, white tea and grapeseed extract. They neutralize the damage caused by free-radicals.

- To build collagen and encourage skin-cell turnover, use products with ingredients such as vitamin A-derived retinoids or retinols as well as peptides which repair sun-induced ageing.

If money is not an issue, you can try some of the expensive treatments:

- Profractional laser treatment.
- The Pearl Laser
- The Affirm Laser
- Ellipse I2PL Skin Rejuvenation
- VI Peel
