How to Eliminate Spider Veins

Spider veins appear in both men and women, but more often in women. They can develop at any age but typically occurs between 18 and 35 years, and peaks between 50 and 60 years.

Those ugly clusters of red, blue or purple veins most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles.

What to do for spider veins? What procedures are available to eliminate them?

- Sclerotherapy: A doctor injects the spider veins with a sclerosing agent using a tiny needle. This agent causes spider veins to collapse and permanently disappear. A  sclerotherapy procedure is relatively fast, lasting only about 15 to 45 minutes. You’ll need two or more procedures to get rid of a spider vein completely. Cost: $200 and up per treatment.

- Vascular laser: The blood within the veins absorbs the laser light, creating heat, which contracts the veins. This procedure is very good for small spider veins. You’ll need a few sessions to see results. Cost: $200 and up per treatment.

You can cover up redness with yellow-based body makeup. Use translucent powder to keep it in place.

One last thing. There is a myth that crossing your legs can cause spider veins. This is not true.
