Although there are many good over-the-counter skin care products recommended by top dermatologists, people are often confused about basic acne skin care.
They are not sure what is the best skin care regimen for men and women with acne. Basic skin care has three components:
- Things not to do: Avoid overaggressive washing and exfoliating, They do not improve acne and can cause underutilization of effective medications. Also, stay away from toners, astringents, scrubs, hydroxy acids, and other types of exfoliants.
- Cleansing: Gently cleanse your face once at night using a mild soap, water, and fingertips. Do not use washcloths, scrubbing pads or nets.
- Moisturizing: Apply a moisturizer after washing and whenever the skin feels dry. Buy a moisturizer that is “non-acnegenic” (doesn’t cause acne) and “non-comedogenic” (doesn’t cause blackheads).
