Face masks are used for cleansing and rejuvenating the skin. There are different types but the most common are the clay or mud masks, epidermal treatment masks, peel-off masks and non-hardening masks.
- Mud masks are used to remove impurities from the skin such as flaking skin, dead skin cells and excess oil. The mud is applied to the skin and allowed to harden for 15 to 45 minutes.
After this the mask is washed from the skin along with the impurities. Depending on the type of mask that you buy, they can have additional ingredients that will help with the cleansing process.
- Epidermal treatment masks are more convenient and more effective. They are made of sheets that you apply to your skin. The sheets include ingredients infused in them that help in face cleansing. These ingredients can be moisturizers, antioxidants and alpha hydroxy acids.
Epidermal treatment masks are great for people with sensitive skin because they do not cause irritation. They are also fantastic for the removal of blackheads where strips are applied to the affected area and left to react with the dirt and sebum. When the strip has done its job and is removed, the dirt will be removed with the strip as well.
- The peel-off masks are also very convenient as they come in a tube or a bottle as a gel. It can be spread over the skin and left for a short while until they dry thereby forming a skin. This ‘skin’ is then peeled off the face together with the impurities that were in the pores of the face.
There are different strengths of peel-off masks and most can be used on almost all skin types. But, people with sensitive skin must test first to find whether a particular brand might be too strong.
- Non-hardening masks are placed to the area you want to clean and left for a few minutes before being removed using a cloth along with any impurities. These masks are perfect for individuals with sensitive skin and can be used more often than other types of masks.
