Tips to Choose Skin Moisturizers That Work
The latest issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter offers help to choose the best skin moisturizers.
You can find a vast array of moisturizer choices in retail stores – from eyelids to feet at prices from less than $10 to more than $100.
The really good news is that you can’t choose wrong. Almost all nonprescription moisturizers help smooth skin and replenish moisture.
However, products with claims that go beyond the basics probably aren’t worth the extra cost. In fact, higher cost doesn’t mean better product.
Follow these tips when it comes to buying a moisturizer:
- Use products designed specifically for the face. Other moisturizers may clog pores.
- For extra dry skin, use a product with petrolatum, glycerin, lactic acid or urea.
- If you have sensitive skin, avoid moisturizers with fragrances, dyes, lanolin, the preservatives parabens and formaldehyde.
Moisturizers work best when used daily and immediately after a bath or shower.
