Approximately 10.2 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2008, reports the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
The most popular surgical procedure was breast augmentation. The most frequently performed non-surgical procedure was Botox injections.
Women had almost 92% of cosmetic procedures. The number of surgical and non-surgical procedures performed on women was over 9.3 million. This is a decrease of over 11% from the previous year.
Men had over 8% of cosmetic procedures – about 800,000; a decrease of over 21% from the previous year.
Americans spent just under $12 billion on cosmetic procedures; $7.2 billion was for surgical procedures, and $4.6 billion was for non-surgical procedures.
