Lose Weight with African Mango

Overweight people have a new ‘tool’ that may help them lose weight – an extract derived from African mango. This fruit, known as Irvingia gabonensis, is commonly eaten in West Africa.

Researchers at the University of Yaounde in Cameroon found that extracts from the fruit’s seed may inhibit body fat production by affecting certain genes and enzymes that regulate metabolism.

During a research, the scientists divided 102 healthy, overweight volunteers into two groups.

One group was assigned to take the plant extract and the other group was taking a placebo twice a day for 10 weeks. There was no special diet and study participants maintained their normal exercise levels.

By the end of the study, the extract group had lost a significant amount of weight – about 28 pounds – while the placebo group showed almost no change.

At the same time, the first group also showed declines in “bad” LDL cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
