Many people are confused about cosmetic face fillers. Here we provide some basic knowledge.
First of all, understand that Botox is not a filler, it is a muscle relaxer. Juvederm, Restylane, Collagen, etc. are fillers.
You should use Botox only if a crease is visible when frowning or squinting.
As you get older, your creases become deeper and deeper, even when you are not frowning, squinting, or using facial muscles.
If your creases are noticeable at rest, and not made worse by squinting, then you only need fillers. On the other hand, if your creases are present at rest, and get worse with squinting, then you need Botox AND fillers.
Different Cosmetic Face Fillers
There are two main differences between fillers: thickness and longevity. As a general rule, the thicker the filler, the better it fills creases.
- Restylane Fine Line and Zyderm are the least thick and are used around the eyes, but they do not last long.
- Juvederm Ultra Plus is used for deeper creases and can last between three and six months.
- Radiesse can last very long – up to 12 months. It is very good for the nasolabial folds and hand rejuvenation.
- Sculptra is an injectable filler that fills larger areas of the face, like sunken cheeks. Results can last one to two years.
- Silikon 2000 and Artefill are permanent synthetic fillers and they cannot be removed.
